Women Children First is a touching tale, about what it must have been like to survive the sinking of the Titanic Reg Parton is a good looking young steward, who works in the first class dining room Reg dreams of one day running his own small restaurant.Lady Juliette Mason Parker is an English lady who is pregnant and unmarried She is travelling to conceal her pregnancy in fear of been ostracised from society.Annie McGeown is a mother of four, travelling with her children to join her husband in N [...]

I really enjoyed this book not only because I have a large interest in the Titanic but because it was so beautifully written with a good level of character development, I found myself caring for the characters and becoming anxious about their fates, but this is all down to how lovely the writing was.The story follows the lives of four characters aboard the Titanic and how their lives are affected after this I can understand that some people would be put off by the idea of constant switches betwe [...]

strangely i enjoyed this book.s we all know what happens in the end, but this book took the story further by asking what happened next though story purely fictional and soem bits were raised eyebrows at it was quite a good wee read

I thought there couldn t be a new angle on the Titanic story, but I was mistaken Here, Gill Paul takes a select group of characters and explores how they deal with surviving the disaster It makes for much interesting reading than I initially thought it would How do you live with the memories of struggling for your life and watching others die This is largely an ensemble piece, but there is one character who gets ink than the others, Reg I think that this is appropriate given that he interacted [...]

This had so much promise Titanic has been done a million times The idea that this might explore the lives of the passengers after the disaster was really exciting to me Sadly, not one of the characters were interesting, well developed, realistic, or even likable.

3.5 stars I really love her writing and have read quite a few of her books but this one fell short for megood but not great, although I loved her take on the Titanic events and focusing on the aftermath.

I ve been morbidly fascinated by the Titanic since I was a 12 year old and have read many books and watched many movies on the tragedy Naturally this fictional account appealed greatly especially when it promised to take a different angle what happened to the survivors afterward How did they cope with PTSD in the aftermath I can t say this book delivered for me Though I suspect that has to do with the range of excellent material I ve already been exposed to The only part of the book which held [...]

This book makes you think To be lucky enough to survive a tragedy such as the sinking of the titanic, yet having to live on with guilt and remorse Sometimes you can t escape what life has in store for you.

I have been obsessed with Titanic and her story ever since I was 5 when I found a book about it at my school library I would constantly look at the pictures in just sheer wonder Reading this book definitely made me feel as if I was there while the ship was sinking The only fault I had in the book was how many characters it followed I really only cared about 2 The others just slowed down the reading till I got to those 2 and then it would pick up again Overall I did enjoy the book and would recom [...]

A very well researched book on a subject that I find fascinating Sadly I didn t feel any kind of a connection with any of the characters So much so, that if they had all perished, I wouldn t have cared less How the characters coped with their lives following the disaster was very interesting Obviously suffering from PTSD, it s sad how they were expected to just get on with their day to day lives as that was the done thing in those days.

This one I noticed on some lists and wanted to read it as it has the Titanic in the plot I have read the authors non fiction book so I was looking forward to reading this one At first I wondered if it could hold my interest in part two, the lives of people after the sinking but it certainly did.

One of my favorites so far this year Unlikely, I know Many many titanic books to read but this one stood out in a good way Entertaining, intriguing, good characters, well researched At the top of its genre, a worthy entertainment read

3.5I m so conflicted because the sinking and emotional aftermath element was done really well but I didn t care so much for the second half, mystery element or characters other than Reg.

I recently read No Place For A Lady by Gill Paul and thought it was brilliant so when I came to read this I was eager to see if it was up to the high standard I had of this author and I definitely wasn t disappointed I absolutely loved this book and couldn t put it down, it s 480 pages long and I devoured it in a matter of days The storyThis story is based around the Titanic and the people who survived I found it completely absorbing and eye opening too as the story unfolded.Reg was a steward on [...]

Women and Children First is a poignant tale told from the perspective of three very different survivors of the Titanic disaster Reg Parton is a member of the first class victualling crew from a humble Southampton background Boarding the Titanic, he leaves his family and his love, Florence, behind, proud to be serving on the unsinkable ship.Lady Juliette Mason Parker, an English rose with a scandalous secret, is crossing the Atlantic with her mother, who relishes in the company of the high societ [...]

I really enjoyed this book I ve read many books related to the Titanic it s still just so fascinating but this one was different in that it focused on what it must have been like for the survivors to try to continue with their lives after experiencing an unimaginable tragedy The author created believable, in depth characters representing various kinds of people who would have been on the ship privileged first class passengers, crew members and third class passengers I really felt like I knew all [...]

Holy smokes this was an amazing book It follows the narratives of three survivors of the Titanic a pregnant woman in first class travelling with her mum to America so she can adopt out her illegitimate baby as soon as it s born, a first class victualling steward, and a woman and mother of 4 travelling in third class, looking forward to meeting her husband in New York I read most of this book at home so it didn t matter when I cried but I made the mistake of going to a cafe once while reading thi [...]

I adored this book, and very nearly read it it one sitting Like many others across the world I am fascinated by the Titanic but suspected that the book might be a little emmm whats the word I m searching for flowery, flouncy for my usual tastes but as it is about the Titanic I had to read it.Very glad I did, as I really enjoyed the story and I quickly got involved with the fictional characters and their lives whilst on board and also after the sinking hopefully not a spoiler there The author has [...]

Most probably a joint favourite with Hazel Gaynors The Girl Who Came Home Another fantastic Titanic Fiction book I loved Gill Paul s book from start to finish He left no details out, following every character before they took their first steps on the famous ship up to some of their last moments It was great how he included most emotional relationships that would have been made or suffered on this fearful night Love, death and class The last being the biggest issue pointed out in most references [...]

I have read a lot of Titanic literature I love the history, the tragic stories, and the real life characters involved This story, however, is as much about the aftermath of that tragedy the characters that survived this telling are so real and interesting Gill Paul is my new favorite author This is the second book I have read by that author in 5 days Also, I am intrigued by her insight into the psychological side effects affecting the survivors of the Titanic That is a unique perspective as far [...]

I really enjoyed this book I have always been fascinated by the Titanic itself therefore, when I noticed this book, I knew I had to read it I enjoyed reading about the three survivors and their stories after the Titanic sank It was interesting to read how their lives seemed to change dramatically, all in relation to the sinking I also loved the accuracy of the facts that the author included in the book, a great read and highly recommended

  23. Julie Sparks

I read this book because I heard they had made it into a TV program But I can t find the show anywhere Regardless, I m so glad that I read this book It is a story most of us know by heart Ms Paul s main characters are fictional, but you can feel their emotions and fear as the story progresses I wanted them to be real What a horrible thing it must have been to be witness to so much tragedy I can t even imagine living with that memory God Bless them all.

  24. Laura Head

A great novel which included tales after the Titanic, which is a change from most stories about the Titanic It was nice that the book included resolved endings for all the characters and an epilogue The lives of all the people who survived the Titanic is something I have always been fascinated in and would like to find a non fiction book which told us this, however for now this work of fiction was brilliant

  25. Betty I Lanko

Excellent Very good story Knowing this as a true story in history made this work of fiction seem so real Tears came to my eyes at times reading how it must have felt to know a loved one was left behind and would not survive Such a sad story but this really happened Thank you, Gill Paul, for taking us to this place of really feeling somewhat what it must have been like to actually be there.

  26. Michelle

This book was incredibly easy to read, and the short chapters at the beginning really help you adjust to each character and their personal view I loved every character and became engrossed in each storyline I found this book did justice to the historical event, but also gave readers an avenue to form their own connections to the fictional characters Would completely recommend, AMAZING read.

  27. Lori

Enjoyed the history in the storyI have this 4 stars because the story held my attention Characters were interesting although could have been developed out a bit I did feel like I was taken back into time and could really picture how things may have been and the challenges and also the excitement of the era.

  28. Kimmy 💁🏽‍♂️

I love this book so much Thank you Gill Paul for making this book for me to dive into what it has been to those who survived the unforgetable event of the sinking of Titanic I cried so much towards the ending It s the kind of book which you just want to know what happens to these people Love it

  29. Chloe

I loved this book I love this author This is the second book I ve read of hers within a couple of months I love the concepts of her books, of individual stories told by people involved in these significant moments in history You can tell she does a lot of research and puts a lot of thought in to what really might have happened I really enjoyed this story, just as I did The Secret Wife.
