I m reading this series aloud to my children You d think at 15, 12 and 9 at least two of them would be getting a bit old for these books, but the new book was awaited with great anticipation and was not a let down You get a new perspective on books you read aloud Clumsy dialogue and overly descriptive prose are evident when every word is read aloud With these books, there is no issue in this regard The plotting is tight and the storyline intelligent There are many laugh out loud moments Alvin p [...]

EDIT I m sorry, but this book is perfect. If I could give it than five stars, I would.I would quote the whole book as proof, but it would take too long You don t understand This book literally starts with an author s note apologizing for the fact that it s a story about how much growing up sucks It ends with an epilogue about how terrible the present may be because of the choices you made before, but if you hadn t made those choices, you would miss out on the present joy, too, so you have to che [...]

I m listening to all these books over again, and although this one is still my least favorite, it s as well written and compelling as the others I m giving it another star.I m on my way to listening to the final volume, How to Fight a Dragon s Fury, which I haven t yet read Hoping this wraps up on a happy note, but I guess we ll see Much too stressful for a children s book, and the first of the Hiccup series to end on a cliffhanger Good enough, but not my favorite.

But sometimes the bravest thing a Hero has to do is not fighting monsters and cheating death and witches It is facing the consequences of his own actions Help, I think this series might be wrapping up soon Do not want.I m not going to waste my time writing a long review, because when one is writing a review of the tenth book in a series that none of one s GR friends have read, the act of reviewing is a formality than anything Ahem. That being said, this might end up actually being longer than I [...]

This book was emotional, in depth to the ties people had with each other Hiccup had one of the worst plans ever which failed right at the beginning but somehow he managed to turn that to his favour This book actually had a lot of underlying messages, such as standing up for what you truly believe in As always, the Epilogue just sums up the book so eloquently and makes me crave the next book Overall, not as good as the last book but it carried on the story well and it put Hiccup in an interesti [...]

AudioBook ReviewStars Overall 5 Narration 5 Story 5The tales from Hiccup Horrendous Haddock are coming to an end, and Cowell manages to acknowledge readers now grown who have followed from the start with a slightly darker tale, a bit sadder, very emotional, and gives us the next to last story in Hiccup s tale The Dragons are rebelling, dramatically so, and Snotlout is the new King of the Hairy Hooligans, and in keeping with his personality, not a great one Hiccup is still quietly being the hero, [...]

These books really are getting better and better as they go on This one has definitely been my favorite so far I really liked it.What s really great is there seems to be a good balance between comical moments and deep, emotional moments, sometimes even profound moments Cressida Cowell really has a great grasp on balancing out aspects of her stories. There were, however, a few hiccups if you will with the story that I noticed When Hiccup and Eggingarde parted ways, she said Goodbye Hiccup but she [...]

I m sorry. Can someone please explain to me how a CHILDREN S book that has DRAWINGS on every other page can possibly make me feel all the emotions I m feeling right now This was supposed to be a cute fun series I read in between all the other books that hit me too hard emotionally, and here I am, crying over a children s book This book is just so relateable in so many ways It s probably odd to think about a book about dragons and vikings with the main character being a preteen can be so relateabl [...]

Reader Thoughts This book started at the lowest point of Hiccup s life, I think It ended slightly better, but I love what happened ith the slave mark I love Valhalarama I thought the eye claw dragon living under the sand would turn out to be friendly Guess not Then I thought Hiccup would get swallowed whole and find Fishlegs in the dragon s belly Again, guess not That would have been too unlikely although this series certainly does that a lot.I like that Hiccup grew up a year and that he turned [...]

Things have really hotted up with the last 4 of these books, which are all interconnected, as the first 8 were not They are also much longer and gripping Definitely children s YA lit but they have indeed proved entertaining to me.

Hiccup really isn t doing so well this one His friends are lost and he s lost and his family has all betrayed him A lovely start to a children s book, might I add Except you kinda get the feeling that this isn t any old children s book.Honestly, for half of this book I was flailing around like a jellyfish exclaiming how adorable and amazing all the characters are particularly Eggingarde , and the other half I was reading as fast as I could, because this one is a page turner Is it odd that this b [...]

I just read the first chapter on the How to Train Your Dragon website, and all it s done is make me excited and impatient than ever to read this book Why do books have to come out so late here Although I miss the days where the most dangerous thing that could happen on a typical day on the Isle of Berk was a Pirate Training lesson gone horribly wrong factors for said wrongness include a variety of monstrous and dangerous dragons, ruthless bullies with a basic sense of humor, a negligent and rat [...]

Yes Finally after the jaw dropping cliffhanger of an ending from the last book, I have seen how the story continues, and I am not disappointed Really, I thought this book would a lot darker Not as in horrible things happening, but darker on an emotional level and I suppose compared to the other books it kinda was I STILL haven t read How to Cheat a Dragon s Curse, but I know, for some reason, Hiccup is now immune to the venomous vorpent poison Anyway, that fact wasn t really needed for this book [...]

Have I told you how much I love this series yet Seriously, if you haven t listened to the audiobooks you are missing out David Tennant does a tremendous job and truly brings the story alive. The story is captivating and Hiccup the 3rd is still quite lovable This story is a bit darker than the previous stories and does deal with some darker situations With that said, this is most definitely a middle grade story that most 9 12 year olds will be able to handle without issues My only critique of the [...]

The book How to Seize a Dragon s Jewel by Cressida Cowell is a book about Hiccups silly adventures with his dragon toothless The plot to this book is he is an outcast and every one is trying to kill him And his dad and his best friend are slaves for Alvin the Treacherous So he sneaks into the prison to try to get them out and everything goes downhill from there I liked this book because it is full of humor and adventure so i would recommend this book to anyone who likes books with humor and adve [...]

I decided to read this book because I liked the movie, dragons and the because I had read a bit of the series When I read it I found it very interesting , entertaining, and exciting I learned how unexpected things can happen suddenly I found the deadly shadow dragon intersting because it was very evil and wild until it found its master and then changed completely it turned royal It was great book with many twists and interesting movements.

  19. Christina

There is so much to these then mindless children s books The message of the difficulties of growing up increasing with each volume Progressing along with reading the books makes me wish that the movies were true to the books, even though I ve loved the movies on their own merits Again listened to the audio version, and I can t say enough good things about David Tennant s reading of them He really makes them come alive and adds to the enjoyment.

  20. Nicola Sheridan

Loved it.As always Cowell has created yet another engaging, thought provoking installment in the life of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third.Probably one of the most poignant of the How to train your Dragon series, this book delves into the families of not just Hiccup but Fishlegs, with touching detail.I am waiting with with baited breath for the final in the series Five stars

  21. Yami

sad, spirit crusher, and gloomy, and I read it in a time that I didn t need a dose of those three words, other than that, still it is interesting , clever and enjoyable read, not a happy one though.

  22. D.C.

VERY poetic and much different in tone from its predecessors High fantasy and stomach twisting suspense make this an impossibly riveting, and quite dark read.

I actually want to give 4.5 stars, but I can t So here s 5 stars from me.Cressida Cowell is a great story teller This book is so breathtaking I nearly love everything in this book The character, the character s background story, the plot, the dialogue between the characters, and even the author s narration Everything seems so perfect and natural. The scene when Valhallarama gave her speech made me stunned as I feel her charismatic aura It feels like Cressida has some magic ability to make the rea [...]

One of the reviews on the back of the book says that children are lucky to have Cressida Cowell and I can t agree with them Part of me is a little bitter that I didn t have these books as a kid, because there s so much heart and wonder to the stories, that I know would have amazed me in childhood, but they re still so good reading them as an adult That s the mark of a true story teller In my opinion Cressida Cowell was born to write and I thank fate and those Scottish Isles she visited as a kid [...]

  25. Nao Mendoza

Ughhhh I don t know how this series which was supposed to be a light and fun read has made me feel so emotional I just want to hug Hiccup for all the hardships he has encountered growing up I like how a book meant to be for kids says a lot of message about growing up and about fighting for the things you believe in I can t wait to read the next book but I also don t want to hurry I want to know what will happen next but I don t want the series to end yet Must read everyone

  26. Kristen

I m going to be so sad when this series is over It started out silly and inspiring and has really turned into an emotional, intelligent story while still being hilarious I love the new dragons we meet during Hiccup s journey to save his tribe, and I also love that we get a closer look at Hiccup s mother the questing, heroic Valhallarama I know there are two books left, so I m anxious to see what the story line will be in the next one, since the final one is where I really want be

  27. Katie Demick

My boys and i really enjoy listening to these books on our drives to and from school The narrator is amazing and really brings these books to life And Cressida has done an amazing job creating this world of Vikings and dragons We will be sad when this series is over These books are not like the movies, at first we were disappointed but now we don t even notice I highly recommend listening to these books if you and your family has a commute

  28. Scott

Book 8 My charge and I continue reading and loving the How to Train Your Dragon series The one we just finished is How To Seize A Dragon s Jewel. With humor, great plot twists and just general cleverness it s a fun read It also helps me use characters and situations to teach home school I give it an 8.
