An excellent commentary dealing with the first three chapters of Genesis MacArthur not only attacks evolution but also attacks many false teachings in the church today This book is sound on doctrine, when you consider much Bible doctrine is introduced in the first part of Genesis There are also good attacks on Buddhism and Mormonism doctrines by using this part of Genesis This is a must read for all Christians to make sure we understand the doctrines taught here.

I m having a hard time getting through this book This book is filled with obvious and dangerously simple errors of logic and philosophy And being a lover of good literature, I find him incredibly insulting to poetry, or mere poetry, as he calls it As if all the greatest writings in history have not been poetry And yet he is fond of quoting Psalms As far as I m concerned, some denominations have lowered their standards of theology too much, and we need the atheists to humble them In the history o [...]

There are a lot of things I like about John MacArthur when he s talking about subjects he knows about, but his approach to dealing with science and scientists is pretty appalling Full of logical errors and over simplifications Evolution does not being an Atheist or Materialist, and modern Biblical scholarship offers far reasonable interpretations of Genesis than a plain reading in English.

A tremendous defense of Biblical creationism and expose of the fallacy of evolutionary theory Starting laying your intellectual foundation on these important topics with this book

I m not done yet, but I m storing so much in my head to write about this book that I m afraid I m going to start spilling it all over the floor and I ll never get it all collected back together again So this might be a little jumpy 1 The first part of the book really made me angry the way he was creating words and thoughts for the scientists I really have trouble believing that the scientists are trying to imagine a godless world so that they can be happy in their sins I don t think that most sc [...]

One of the best resources I know in defense of the Biblical Genesis account of Creation Extremely detailed without being overly technical MacArthur takes a sermon series he wrote on the Creation account and beautifully put together a solid resource that I highly recommend reading.

The author strongly upholds the Biblical account of creation and shows that it is the foundation for all that follows in the Bible He demolishes evolution and supports a young earth viewpoint Many interesting things are mentioned as to the creatures that God created.

John MacArthur s reasoning in The Battle for the Beginning is simple a straightforward, literal reading of the Genesis creation text, considered solely on its own merits and unencumbered by modern evolutionary scientific theory and, by extension, philosophical naturalism , clearly and reasonably describes a period of six, 24 hour days As such, the earth and all its inhabitants, animals and humans, were created within one solar week He walks carefully through the text and explains what happened o [...]

I like MacArthur But I don t think his book makes a convincing case against the possibility of the creation days being longer than 24 hours I don t think it s a compromise to take into account scientific data when interpreting Scripture For example, it was once believed that the Bible taught geocentricism scientific data suggested heliocentrism Eventually godly Bible interpreters came to realize that their hermeneutic needed to change in light of the new evidence The church has not collapsed bec [...]

3.5MacArthur s work is good, and the connection he draws between Creation, the Fall, and Redemption is the strongest point in the book However, he does not interact sufficiently with other viewpoints e.g gap theory, day age, etc before concluding they are incorrect and dismissing them While I would affirm his conclusions, the book itself tries so hard to avoid becoming overly technical that it presents other viewpoints as mere straw men In light of that, the presentation of a literal, six day wo [...]

After reading some weird theories about the creation account of Genesis, I was happy to read a book that took the creation account for what it really is, a historical account about how our universe came into existence By far the best book I ve read on the issue and probably the best book I ve read by MacArthur too I will definitely be using a lot of this book as I teach about the book of Genesis in the coming months.

I loved this book But I fully understand that if someone does not love the Bible then much of this book may be meaningless to them Too bad

Great exposition A responsible defense and explanation of Young Earth Creationism But who believes this in the post modern mire I, myself do, for one.

Not a great book The first couple chapters were good, but there are better books out there on this topic Pretty dry reading though out most of the book.
