I just received this book, written by Brock Booher, as an advanced copy It will not be released until spring of 2014 I started reading it this afternoon, and could not put it down until I finished the last page There is nothing I love than a well told story This story fills the bill It s a heart felt story of a 17 year old boy, named Stone , who discovers that he possesses an amazing gift Set in the South in the 1950 s, it gave me a feeling of a little Twilight Zone , a little To Kill A Mocking [...]

I liked this glimpse of life in the deep South just prior to the Civil Right s Movement Stone is an interesting teenager, dealing with a lot of non teenager issues I liked how the mystery of where Stone s gift came from kept the story moving My favorite thing about the book was Stone s relationship with his brother, Leck To me, he was raw, real, and funny This book brings up a lot of good questions about spiritual gifts They re real, but you have to use them to help others, not for your own pers [...]

Healing Sone by Brock Booher was a fantastic read After receiving my copy I read the first chapter and was excited to come back on a day with a little down time I intended to read the book over two separate evenings, but instead found myself finishing the book at 1 in the morning that same evening I credit this to the thought provoking storytelling and the closeness which I felt to the narrator and other characters I love how the book covers a variety of interesting issues racism, spirituality, [...]

I have to admit that this is not the genre I normally read, but my daughter won a copy at the book launch party and I am glad she did Once I started reading it, I couldn t put it down That doesn t happen often with me Booher has an excellent style and I look forward to reading from him in the future The story itself takes place in 1950s Kentucky I enjoyed being transported to another place and time Booher did a great job of immersing me in another culture While I was reading Healing Stone I fel [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed this book I loved a male protagonist who had different facets that were unveiled as the book unfolded The different aspects of the plot, the twist at the end that I enjoyed calling as well as the reality of life during that day and age made for a pretty darn good page turner My teenage daughter and I had to fight over who got to read it when I would read it again just to glean from Stone and who he became at the end.

5 STARS Healing Stone does not feel like a debut book I like the characters, they were a good mix They had good and bad sides Dealt with real issues that were part of history It engaged my emotions, yes I cried in a few places It had me rooting for some of the characters to be healed Some decisions made me think what would I do I did figure out early who the character that was doing the bad stuff was The setting was small town Kentucky Where Stone Molony was raised on a farm Close by was also th [...]

I spent many weeks in summers visiting my stepfather s home in very rural Campton, Wolf County, KY the late 1950s and 1960s This place was Appalachia at its worst and perhaps at its best I truly never thought I d read a book that brought back those days so clearly and vividly This book had characters both good and bad, very poor but grateful for life, prejudiced and open just as I met and played with when we visited Like Stone, my daddy found a way out of his holler and made a very good life for [...]

Brock Booher has written a thoughtful and engaging story about race, relationships, injury and healing in 1950 s Kentucky His main character, Ezekiel Stone Molony discovers an amazing power as a young man working his family s farm How he uses that power and it s effect on the community around him keep the pages turning to the end Like the Cumberland River near where the drama takes place, the novel often flows simply and smoothly It contains beautiful descriptions of rural Kentucky, two generati [...]

When I won this book through a Cedar Fort facebook giveaway, I was excited, but not ecstatic It s definitely not my preferred genre, but the premise sounded interesting. Then I read it.Holy Mother Of Pearl. It has been a long time since a book has made me do the paper thing That s when the book is getting so good, and my brain keeps trying to skip ahead that I have to get a sheet of paper and hold it over the rest of the page to force me to slow down That is in addition to making me cry actual tea [...]

Did I enjoy this book I loved it I couldn t put it down.It was an unusual story about an adopted boy who discovers he has the gift of healing The tale developed into a criminal mystery that led the main character into a dangerous riddle of lies and murder. It was well written, has nicely developed characters, and a unpredictable plot The conflicts were both internal and external Several characters had compelling issues to resolve and each was wrapped up by the end of the story I couldn t find any [...]

Perhaps it would be helpful if I first confess that this isn t the kind of book I usually pick up I read a lot of fantasy, but not usually historic or realistic, and mostly YA and middle grade So, the book was a change of pace for me I also can t claim that I thoroughly enjoyed it while in the middle of the book it was say too intense for that However, I did find myself sneaking it back out after I was supposed to be in bed in order to finish it, and continue to think about it and discuss it wit [...]

Read this one for book club I think he is an excellent author, very well written It made for great discussion He is amazing at building characters I also liked how many themes he had interlaced in this book religion including faith and humility , race, coming of ageThe only thing I had a hard time with and the reason for the 3 star rating is how gritty the book got There were some things that were really hard to read about The villain was a real dirt bag and there were times that I just had to p [...]

I really enjoyed reading this It s set in a really interesting era which leads to a book with a couple of diverse themes war, race, religion, corruption.I m an atheist and I didn t find the religious aspect overbearing or preaching and it felt like a natural part of the story as a whole. After reading some chapters one day, I found myself looking forward to reading again the next day.I would recommend this to other readers and would read from this author.

A methodical read in the beginning, but the pacing picks up about 1 3 of the way in and it s hard to put down I can tell the author spent a lot of time in creating his characters and working on a believable and interesting setting Kudos for that If this book had a better cover, it would be a strong contender for a breakout debut.
