Having ventured further away from home than is safe, two mice encounter a cat who is on the prowl Gustave distracts the cat so his friend can escape Now his little mouse friend reflects on that sacrifice and mourns the loss of his friend Although he dreads going home to tell his mother what has happened, he also knows he must do so She provides comfort in the form of a hug and a stuffed mouse I have mixed feelings about this title It could be useful for coping with a loss and reassuring youngste [...]

Fantastic First off, it s a great story about the friendship of two mice which ends tragically BUT it is also a story about new beginnings but even better, Pierre Partt s illustrations are superb dark and sinister to suit the story but with a buoyancy that is stunning It is brilliant Do you think I like this one

This book about loss for children acknowledges children s feelings without talking down to them The art reflects the mood of grief for our protagonist, and is sure to trigger some important family conversations
