Wow, this was Zelazny at his best He managed to put into this not just Hokusai, oh my god, it was a feast with many dishes, all these references to books, movies, religions Yet everything is so simple and clear onna bugeisha and her blade And the way of the samurai While reading I couldn t get rid of the image of major Motoko Kusanagi, from Ghost in The Shell, walking the streets of future Tokyo in cold rain, looking for her fate Another impossible reference Anyway, it was beautiful, it was perf [...]

This book kind of annoyed me tbh Soooo many allusions, most of which seemed totally out of place and thrown in just to be clever Not super confident about the author s experience of Japan either, which seemed level okay, encyclopedia back then Good luck seeing Fuji from under a bridge in the middle of Tokyo That said, it s stylistically and formally adventurous sci fi so 3 stars.
