Wow This was brilliant Not at all what I expected, but all the fascinating Quite macabre actually shudders a wonderfully told fantasy story indeed, with fascinating magical elements, the most adorable demons, a lot of mystery and a very lovely ending Alexey is a powerful warlock adorable, mischievous and best friends with the Master Librarian Fiori He loves to read, eat and bicker I instantly took a liking to sweet Alexey, who is surrounded by mystery and magic that seems too strong, and very c [...]

I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I really liked this book I thought the fantasy world was interesting, and well developed, and I really liked the setting The magic was different, and I liked the concept of the Warlock Dark, and than a little creepy Way than a little The characters were interesting, and well developed I liked the way they interacted together, and how it was about than just love, but about friendship, guilt, family, and responsib [...]

Inspired by Slavic myths and Russian fairytales, Alexey Dyed in Red tells a story about warlocks and demons, mysterious cities, love, family and guilt pleasently dark and eerie, at the same time very sweet and sensual. All three main characters are adorable sweet and clueless Alexey, affectionate Vasily, stern Porfiry Alexey maybe stays clueless for a bit too long, the mystery isn t all that hard to figure out after all, but this one s still recommended for fans of fairytales with an m m or m m m [...]

I feel like I m in the minority hereis book has such high ratings that I couldn t help but get excited to read it The little blurb made it sound exactly like something i would enjoy has fantasy elements, is a bit dark, and has mystery Unfortunately I found it a bit lacking.Alexey was an endearing character He s bookish, smart, witty, and also a warlock which are all characteristics I love He also loves to eat sweetshe s cute Vasiliy and Porfiry are demons with magic of their own who come to inve [...]

Very interesting story and I quite enjoyed reading it, even if it was quite frustrating at times Alexey was cute and clueless and Porfiry and Vasiliy were interesting mix of secrets and snarling with a picture perfect shell Interested to see how the second book will be in the spring.Word of warning If you don t enjoy convoluted stories where you know just as little as the MC then don t pick this one up Most of the time the reader has no idea what is happening and even less of why things are happ [...]

My, but what an odd book an exercise in contrasts Such a dark, macabre kind of setting, filled with warlocks and demons, but such a tender and romantic tale While I appreciated the mystery, it felt too artificial, with too much held back for no good reason I don t mind a story that s legitimately puzzling, but it just felt a bit strained here.

I ll admit that when I first picked this book, I wanted most to support the author, A.M Valenza, since I know how hard it can be to get readers and reviewers for smaller indie published books, especially at the crux of fantasy and queer literature So I didn t know quite what to expect, but I decided to go in with an open mind Primarily I wanted to evaluate Valenza s writing style, story structure, and character development Spoilery pros cons section ahead view spoiler Pros Interesting Things Val [...]

Mysterious, fascinating, and kept me on the edge of my seat The main plot was about Alexey, about whom he really was The romance was just a subplot, very mild and there s no sex at all.I m kinda tempted to read the second book even though it s not MM.

Must everyone speak in riddles today Alexey growled Excerpt From A.M Valenza Alexey Dyed in Red The Zhakieve Chronicles Book 1 Yes Apart from the last quarter or less, throughout reading it, that was how the whole book felt to me.

Wow what a ride From the mystery plot to the shy romance it was just great If I could tolerate horror just a tiny bit this would have been a clear 5 stars.

This book OMG this book was so good Okay I am a huge horror movie fan and I love all things fantasy so when I read this book and realized it was like a horror wrapped around fantasy I just was in awe of how amazing this world the author created was So let me explain while I felt this book was equal mixtures of both horror and fantasy I am not trying to spoil this book at all, this is just one of the many things that made me pause and think WTH There may of been mention of eating another warlock [...]

It was weird, but in a good way I think It was really well written, but it was also very cryptic, maybe a bit too much some times.I didn t really get the relationship between the three main characters, mostly because for me, the two demons were too bland. But Alexey was a very interesting character, and his story was captivating, both his past and his present

A Joyfully Jay review 3.5 starsAlexey Dyed in Red was intriguing, maddening, simple, and complex all in equal measure The simple Alexey is a affable man who adores his adopted homeland and wants only to continue his ordered, comfortable life The complex his past is tangled with myth, bloody power, and the whim of false gods, all of which come to a head by the end of the book I couldn t help being drawn further and further into the story and the escalating consequences offered a sense of taut edg [...]

I ll be honest, this story made 0 sense to me It was quite atmospheric, sure, and I was quite fascinated with the world the author was constructing But it tried to set up a moral framework that, given the otherwise borderline surrealist, didn t quite actually work for me I mean in a way, borderline surrealist is a nice way of putting it it s one of those stories where the plot gets so convoluted to the point where it also kind of wasn t there The morality thingI dunno, I guess it just had a few [...]

Alexey Dyed in Red is a book based on Russian fairytales and it shows The story oozes in atmopshere, you can basically feel the cold and see the red towers of the city. However, what it has in atmosphere it kinda lacks in story Story is at first absolutely confusing and foreign, however, when we finally reach the point where the plot starts to unravel and make sense, it becomes easily predictable view spoiler Oooh, I wonder who might be the hunters Maybe the only other named characters in the boo [...]

This story is nothing like any other fantasy book I have read The magical world the author created is very different from most of the mainstream stories out there There is, also, horror wrapped around the fantasy storyline in a way that is very dark The ways a warlock gains power within this story is both disturbing and fascinating all at the same time There are so many twists within this short story that make your head spin in a good way Alexey thinks he lives a happy life But, things change af [...]

2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention Alexey Dyed in Red by A.M ValenzaThis, for me, was written as a fairy tail with self discovery I enjoyed reading about Alexey, and the safety of his place The author starts to peel back the layers of Alexey transforming from him a happy, almost child like man, to a man who is happy in the decisions he makes and lives well within this own skin.
