Goldman s books on heirloom vegetables are not just lovely end table books Not at all It s true that there is not a lot of information in the book on how to cultivate the fruit, how to save seed, and so on However, her books in this series are gorgeous but not complete by any means encyclopedias of vegetables that hold genetic histories that are on the verge of extinction These books may inspire some to see that heirlooms are neither unattractive nor unproductive and inspire gardeners to return [...]

This year I decided to grow some heirloom varieties of melon and watermenlon, ananas d amerique and orangeglo watermelon so I got this book from the library and while the pictures are gorgeous and they try to give a brief mention to every type of heirloom there is, there is not enough detail on each one and the growing advice is a bit scant I thorough book would be a great sequel to this one.
