4 HeartsSpace, smex, and the holidays Sign me up Filo has been the sole occupant of a communications station on the edge of space for 3 long years He opted for the isolation in a bid to escape the chaotic crowded life on the colony and though he s a little lonely, he wouldn t trade it for anything When he gets a distress signal from a stranger, he s surprisingly grateful for the company Luz is uber friendly flirty, seemingly sending a bunch of mixed signals However, Filo s not going to overstep [...]

This short holiday read started off fairly dry, with lots of talk about space station maintenance and various blah, blah, blah, yawn, leading you to believe that Filo, the station s maintenance engineer, had been the only person aboard the ship for the past three years. Then suddenly, there was also this flirty, naked man, Luz, flitting around without a care in the world, seeming to taunt Filo with his naughty bits at every opportunity, after he had been rescued from an escape pod a few months pr [...]

3 StarsSalvaging Claus Day is a refreshing little futuristic Sci Fi Christmas tale It was a bit slow for such a short story, but it s uniqueness made it memorable And that ending Definitely food for thought.

I was ready for a dose of holiday sci fi and Salvaging Claus Day delivered It starts a little slowly, but that tone does the perfect job of setting up Filo s character His life was lonely and his environment devoid of human contact The beginning showed me that really well while giving me glimpses of his history organically as it related to his current situation I understood why he was on the space station and why he was OK with being there It was quietly sad, much like his life and doesn t that [...]

A Christmas Sci Fi, I d thought I d try it Unfortunately this was quite boring The first 30% of this short consists only of descriptions of how Filo fixes something on the outside of the space station After that he goes inside where apparently Luz is The guy who got stranded at the one man space station when he had to take a lifepod and ended up at the station Filo is at Now it s just the two of them until a ship arrivesI never felt the connection between these guys and was bored out of my mind [...]

4 HeartsMy late father used to say he could live on the moon, alone and be fine I never understood how he could say that until I got older and now I feel the same I am an introvert who prefers the solitude of my own company though I to love my family and dogs So with this, I got why Filo would prefer to live in space rather than the congested life that was becoming Galanor 6.You feel how isolated and yet how organized Filo s life is among the stars It was evident that his 6 years weren t wasted [...]

Lovely Filo enjoys the quiet and solitude of space so his job on a remote com station in space is perfect for him.Enter Luz, his escape pod brought him in range of the com station so FILO rescued him Luz is everything Filo ever thought he wanted When Luz finds out that as an engineered soldier Filo has never had a Claus Day he does everything he can to make Filo s first one perfect As well as sexy I am enchanted with Filo He is an engineered soldier with no capacity for violence and doesn t know [...]

4 5 stars for an unexpected bundle of sexy holiday romance Nothing says introvert like three years as the sole occupant of a communications station in deep space Filo enjoyed his time in isolation, happy to escape his crowded home planet in exchange for solitude But when Luz unexpectedly arrives at the station in a lifepod, Filo begins to realize how much his extended isolation has affected him With communication skills that are severely lacking and a disastrous history with romance, Filo isn t [...]

A holiday story set in space and the far reaches of outer space at that is a rare treat, even among the diverse types of story each year s Dreamspinner Advent Calendar has to offer Salvaging Claus Day is about Filo, a communications hub tech stationed at the ass end of the galaxy his words He has been alone for the last three years, after the Corporation did not replace his three coworkers Then, three months ago, Filo rescued a stranger named Luz from a drifting lifepod and, since no transport o [...]

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads I love romantic Christmas novellas, as they bring all the magic and excitement of Christmas to life with plenty of heartwarming passion. This is a very unusual story for the season but it is excellent We learn about Filo as the story develops, and it makes his solitude, and lack of festive spirit, understandable, but rather sad Luz is a fun character, and the perfect foil for the lone station technician There are plenty of s [...]

A Hearts on Fire review. This was a sweet short story that followed Filo, a maintenance worker on an isolated space station who rescues a man straight from his dreams Luz makes himself at home on the station where the only other person is Filo, waiting for the next ship to bring him home, when he discovers that Filo has never celebrated Claus Day Luz sets out to make Filo s first Claus Day something to remember, but what Filo wants most is something his past has taught him is out of his reach But [...]

I really enjoyed this story of a quiet, serious, lonely spaceman who finds himself celebrating his first Claus Day with the energetic, flirtatious man who arrived in a lifepod three months before Several people complained the opening to the story was dry or boring showing his careful EVA repair but I think that it served a very real purpose, to show the tedium and isolation of Filo s life before Luz As soon as he comes in from his lonely space repair, he s confronted with a flirty and laughing L [...]

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words ReviewRating 3.75 stars out of 5For the full review, visit wp p220KL ckJFrom that review Salvaging Claus Day by J Alan Veerkamp is not the type of story you normally think of when you conjure up your idea of M M Holiday Romances Its neither contemporary or even that romance with a touch of fantasy No, this is straight up science fiction with an HFN ending that you sort of have to decide for yourself what you think is happening within the story For all ours re [...]

Quick little space adventure, with a bit of reality question running through. We start with Filo rescuing himself from the dread of space and his isolation, loneliness come through The ship descriptions certainly put you there, including the lift up the shaft Luz has already been on the ship a few months which I wasn t expecting but is obviously a ray of sunshine and I liked the Claus day celebration in all its starkness but it did the job.

  16. Secretly Reading

This isn t super sweet, traditional holiday story but I really enjoyed it because it was something different The space station setting was a great backdrop that provided the romantic tension between the two leads I do think it suffered a bit from only being told from one POV, but in a short story I supposed that s to be expected Still, this story was good enough that I ll look for others by this author.

  17. Sadonna

I was surprised I liked this one as much as I did since sci fi isn t my thing But the Filo was a very sympathetic character and I was engaged in the story after the first few pages I would definitely read something else from this author.

3.5 starsSci fi typically isn t my bag, so admittedly I was a little worried when I began Salvaging Claus Day From the top, there were a lot of details The writing was clean and flowing, but with me not loving this particular trope, the specifics left me a little disinterested However, as the story progressed and the reader encountered Filo s unexpected guest, Luz, I was intrigued And once the focus shifted from descriptions of the space station and Filo s responsibilities to the uncertainty and [...]

This is a sci fi look at the holiday season I like how love is found and Filo isn t about to question it.
