The best of the series yet 4.5 stars, rounded up because I couldn t put it down and read it in 24 hours. This series lies somewhere between historical thriller and cozy mystery it has a place of its own and I just dig what Victoria Thompson has done here with these stories I say it every time, but I love this series, the period, the character development and the mystery It just keeps getting better with each installment, and I can t wait to read the seventh book which I ve already ordered and is [...]

I can t praise this series enough It keeps getting better and better with each book Sarah s mother is becoming active in the series She really stepped up in this book I like her

Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt calls Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy into his office for an especially difficult assignment A wealthy factory owner has been killed by a bomb in his office, and anarchists are high on the list of suspects Malloy isn t so sure that the easy answer is the right one but Roosevelt wants justice done, whoever the culprits are What I liked most about Murder on Marble Row is that it kept me guessing, something that the other books in this series haven t been able to [...]

Very annoyed with myselfis is review 3 because I closed them without saving.First of storyo long, same old regurgitated info so stopped at about page 100 and went to back, found what happend The End.If you happen to come across this, no worries, read it first and you won t miss a beat.Number six of the series, perhaps I m just getting tired of the series, I m not sure I was not disappointed though not finishing the reading of the book The end did have a twist which is pretty remarkable because u [...]

I really do love this series as well as this genre As to why I enjoy these so much, there are probably several reasons The first would be the two central characters in each of these stories The author has created two people who are worlds apart from one another in terms of their upbringing, but who are attracted to one another and are on equal ground in terms of intelligence, wit, and their views of justice The author also has the ability to weave an interesting mystery in each novel she produce [...]

When a wealthy factory owner is killed by a bomb, police commissioner Teddy Roosevelt asks Malloy to take over the investigation When he goes to the family s home, he is surprised to encounter Sarah Brandt Her father was friends with the dead man Malloy and Sarah find the family to be strange people, each with their own issues Malloy and Sarah have to work through the issues to find who is the killer As usual, I enjoyed the interactions between Malloy and Sarah This particular story was even en [...]

I think I say on every review on the Gaslight mystery series how much I love the series and after book 6, I still love this series A bomb goes off in a wealthy factory owner s office, killing him instantly Malloy gets handpicked for this case and of course Sarah is going to help him My favourite part of the book was how Sarah and her mother went into the bad areas of town to question witnesses Sarah s mom is now one of my main characters in the series now we know where Sarah gets it from The mys [...]

Each installment in the series gets better and better There is always a brief history lesson woven into the story line There is a developing romance between Frank and Sarah There is always a mystery that is easy to solve, but at the end there is usually a surprise twist Really enjoying this series Recommend Note I have classified it as Victorian, but it does not take place in England The scene is set in New York City during that time period.

Another interesting book The Van Dykes could teach a class in being dysfunctional.I usually figure out the solutions of these books fairly early on, but there s always some twist somewhere, so I enjoy them anyways Plus the characters are fun But this book took the cakeJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, PLEASE DON T READ UNLESS YOU WANT THE ENTIRE PLOT SPOILED Page 30 or so Me Gosh, it really seems like the victim set the bomb himself to kill his business partner But that s too obvious, and this would be a lame [...]

Things are always interesting when Sarah Brandt and Frank Malloy get together to solve a crime even when Malloy doesn t want her involved This time around Frank Malloy is asked by the Police Commissioner personally to find out who bombed a wealthy man Frank finds out that Sarah Brandt knows the family and whether or not he wants her investigating this crime that could have been done by anarchist she is there This time it was kind of funny because her aristocratic mother gets involved with her sl [...]

This book is part of a the Gaslight Mysteries written by Victoria Thompson As I read Murder on Marble Row, I kept thinking of Caleb Carr, although this book comes nowhere near the scope of the Alienist or Angel of Darkness It is good reading though and does touch on historical topics The story takes place in New York City at the end of Theodore Roosevelt s tenure as Police Commissioner and deals with the investigation into the bombing death of wealthy industrialist Gregory Van Dyke Policeman Fra [...]

  12. Karen Bales

This book is a by the numbers turn of the century mystery complete with nosy but good hearted female character who pokes her nose into police business and the poor but honest detective who is secretly enad of her and tries unsuccessfully to get her to mind her own business By the end of the story of course he must admit he could not have solved the case without her There are also plenty of well to do characters who don t understand why the police are bothering with questioning them rather than g [...]

  13. Louise

I ve read 5 books in the Gaslight Series, 2 to 6 I guess it s time I read the first one Murder on Astor PLace coming up.

  14. Brandi

Excellent story line There are so many people you will blame for the murders before you reach the end of the book and the true conclusions If you like a good who done it book this one is for you.

  15. Carol R. Tappan

.I love all of these Gaslight mysteries They recreate an era and have exceptional CHARACTERIZATION and plot Three words

  16. Maurita Kling

I was disappointed in this book I ve read all the previous ones enjoyed them a lot, but this was seemed kind of fragmented, didn t run smoothly The plot line concerning Dr Brandt s death being of Main Interest to me, it kind of faded away halfway through the book never made an appearance again, not even a word or two.And there were changes in the character s personalities, particularly Mrs Decker s, which were not explained but quite radical, but also in Malloy s, who suddenly seemed much asser [...]

  17. Julie Trapp

An explosion in his home has killed Gregory Van Dyke No one was at home at the time The staff had the day off Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy must solve the murder with, reluctantly, midwife Sarah Brandt Because the murder weapon was a bomb, anarchists are suspected late 1800s early 1900s NY with Teddy Roosevelt as police commissioner Sarah was at the home paying a condolence call to the family as her family and the Van Dyke s were old friends This book utilizes Sarah s mother good addition With [...]

An enjoyable mystery and an interesting look at the time period of Teddy Roosevelt s New York City, with discussions of wealth and privilege and police corruption and the anarchist movement I had read one other book in this series many years ago and enjoyed it, so I was intrigued when this one landed in my lap I will keep my eyes open for others in this series, because they are well written, the characters are interesting, and the mystery element kept me guessing all along the way turned out my [...]

My favorite of the series so far We get a taste I d anarchy in America and meet the new monied class of wealthy industrialists and there families Social status and social graces all play a part and things really get interesting when Sarah Brandt s mother, a grand dame of the very upper crust of high society, gets into the amateur sleuthing game alongside her daughter Figuring out whodunnit and how is a good deal of the fun.

  20. Rebecka

What I like about this series so far The characters and how they grow That the romance is super slow to develop Getting to explore New York while tagging along with the main charactersSort of weakness The mysteries are often very obvious and if I wanted to be surprised about who the murderer was I d choose another series

  21. Simone

I m binging on a few volumes back to back Finished Book 5 this morning, indulged in Book 6 all day and now I plan to jump right into Book 7.This instalment was just as good as the previous ones, but I am hungry for Frank Sarah Brian Aggie I love how Sarah s mother is being developed and did Sarah s dad really kill her husband MORE MORE MORE

  22. Linda

Another New York turn of the century cozy Gaslight Mystery love the characters, historical references and interaction between Sarah Brandt ,her wealthy family and her down to earth life as a midwife And of course she is ever so helpful to Detective Malloy at a time when Teddy Roosevelt is the Police Commissioner.

  23. Karen

A friend lends me these mysteries, and I ve enjoyed the series The main character, Sarah, is a midwife in NYC at the turn of the century The class system, police corruption, and characteristics of the city and midwifery interest me Some novels in the series are better than others, but reading the mysteries chronologically is recommended.

  24. Jackie Podolski

I enjoyed this novel than the past two because the killer wasn t obvious within the first chapter or two Sarah s and Malloy s relationship was developed the tiniest bit The best part, though, was the presence of Sarah s parents, her mother rather prominently Interesting story with good character development.

  25. Mae

  26. William

I love this series, but this was not one of my favorite books in the series, mostly because the perp was obvious from about the half way point of the book I would still heartily recommend this series and this author

  27. marlene brannon

CompellingI think this was my favorite in the series so far Any of the books could be read as stand alone mysteries, but I m happy to be reading them sequentially as the character and backstory developments are little ongoing side mysteries.

  28. Barbara

I loved the twist in the last pages I also love the evolution of the characters from one book to the next.

  29. Tara B

I love Mrs Sarah Brandt Her mom gets into the mystery solving action in this one which I really enjoyed Sarah s dad asked if Malloy loves Sarah so that s quite the cliffhanger till the next one
