Vincent van Gogh s art is fabulous This book isn t that great though But I didn t get it for the words, so I suppose it was exactly what I wanted.

  2. Krista

  3. Brenda

A fantastic picture book introduction to the most famous art works of Vincent Van Gogh The book begins with a brief description of Van Gogh s life and art, in order to give a bit of context Following that, each page contains one painting along with a line from Van Gogh s own writings Charming

  4. A Allen

I love that this book uses Vincent s own words showcased alongside his pieces There are only 5 8 words on each page, which leaves room for the reader to interpret and appreciate the artwork in my opinion I do wish the artwork was made to fit onto the pages the pieces were cropped into a square shape, which I especially didn t like when it came to the landscapes.

Simple and short phrases about the colors in various Van Gogh paintings. Each 2 page spread is a Van Gogh painting on one page and then the words on the other. The words are from Vincent s letters to his brother, although they admit that some are loosely translated.Beautiful introduction to some of Van Gogh s most famous works End matter gives titles and information on each painting.

The art is inspiringly selected and well presented in a high quality color format, but the text paired with the photos didn t work for me It might be that there are only a few words on each page, as if this book was trying to be a baby reader, when actually the concepts are fairly hard Children deserve clarity, if they are reading it alone, or the adult reading it to them deserves a bit help from the author, whether that comes from a small type picture caption or an in line explanation. For exa [...]

Vincent s Colors is a great book that takes Van Gogh s paintings and talks about them in simple ways Instead of talking about his paintings in a historical sense and what they mean they talk about the colors that he chooses to use whether they be odd or normal colors used for specific things I love this book because Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists It views actual paintings that he has created which would help teach students become familiar with his work and learn to recognize his painting [...]

This book was okay on the cover it says words and pictures by Vincent Van Gogh which is true sort of Each page has maybe six or seven words which, while taken from letters between VG and his brother, are really mere short descriptions that the editor herself could have written Examples are A yellow sky a man in a red cap I know it should be simple for children but really if you re going to pull excerpts from his letters they should be worthy of being called excerpts.
