I ve been looking forward to diving deep into Timothy Gager s title Treating a Sick Animal for a while now, and I curse myself for the time I ve lagged on doing so I started the book thinking I d swallow bits and pieces in between layovers and during road trips On the contrary, I started and couldn t stop One of his opening shorts In and Out sucked me into a vortex, and I couldn t escape until I finished the book from cover to cover In and Out left me understanding many things, among them, passi [...]

Sometimes surreal, sometimes all to real, always gritty, raw and originial, Timothy Gager s flash fictions say so much with so little These are literary delights you re going to want to savor. One of my favorite things is the way the author takes an object and twists it into something else entirely This concept can be found in many of the sories, but my favorite one was Just Dessert The focus of the story is on a belt buckle and then it morphs into a love story.Another favorite of mine is The Sho [...]

Tim s flash stories are little gems He has a gift for revealing the exact moments in his characters lives when everything changes These stories also, than occasionally, are funny in a way that hurts, and that is another of his great gifts as a writer.

Tim Gager s book of flash and micro fiction reads like an old wooden roller coaster ride, where the carnie is on speed and you ve just eaten a plate full of nachos, with extra ghost chilis It s dangerous stuff, but in a good way The author has an ear for the bizarre dialogue in the mundane every day lives of blue collar America, twisting the mirror around so we can see the freaks we truly are I ve read this book through twice now and still can t forgive myself In other words, it s not a book for [...]

I really got into these stories Some are downright bizarre a woman taking her pet to a vet only it s really a man, a girl cooking entire meals in an easy bake oven with a high watt bulb in tiny pieces and then reassembling them, etc , but all of them hit hard and hit fast Definitely don t be fooled by the short lengths of the pieces, Gager gets an amazing amount done in a very short amount of sentences You really have to read to believe it.

Gager does it again with raw, eclectic stories that sometimes make you sick and sometimes give you the warm and fuzzes.
