    Both novels read like 1940s screenplays and Fleischman did write many screenplays I can just picture Alan Ladd, Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck opposite Veronica Lake, Lauren Bacall and Susan Hayward Tough guys, beautiful women, exotic locales and action packed plots I didn t know until this year that Fleischman was a prolific writer of mysteries, screenplays and magic books he was a practicing magician in addition to all his wonderful children s and young adult books I read a great bibliograph [...]

    Two short Fawcett Gold Medal novels from the early 50s They re fun but slight, fast paced with a nice sense of place Indonesia His characters are interesting, but they fall in love too quickly and the women seem to start out tough and become meek when they fall for the heroes Still, I liked the stories.
